I Am Having Severe In The Bottom Of My Tailbone And Am Told The Dr's All Think It Has To Do With The SI Joint. Anyone Have This Experience?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Chicago, IL

I have been to multiple Dr's, had a bunch of CT Scans, X-rays and MRI's. I did a shot that was horrible in my back to help with the pain. I belive it might have worked but took 2+ weeks to take effect, but the pain is back now after about 4 months. I am searching for anyone who has experience in this as it is making it impossible to sit and is so sensitive that any bumps or anything causes terrible pain.

P wave therapy ( Piezo wave therapy) is non invasive and very effective. Check in your area who does it- just use Google or other search engine. You live in Chicago area so someone must be providing those services . Good luck 😊

Hi Michelle,

I have SI joint flare-ups and have been in severe pain. I have found that stretching has helped me a great deal. You can request physical therapy; they teach you great stretching techniques to relieve the pain. Also, YouTube has great videos to teach yourself how to stretch. The person who performs the exercises is a bit silly-funny, but the exercises/stretching work. Here's one for you.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain. Tailbone pain, or coccydynia, can indeed be challenging. Here are some insights based on my knowledge base:

- Common Causes: Tailbone pain can result from external trauma (like a fall), internal trauma (such as intense childbirth), or prolonged sitting on hard surfaces. Less commonly, it can be due to infections, abscesses, or tumors.
- RA and Tailbone Pain: While not the most common location for RA pain, coccydynia can occur in individuals with RA due to inflammation or related autoimmune conditions.
- Management Tips:
- Resting and managing stress.
- Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs.
- Heat and Cold Therapy: Using heating pads or cold packs.
- Lifestyle Adjustments: Leaning forward while sitting, using a doughnut or wedge-shaped cushion.
- Physical Therapy: Targeting pelvic floor muscles.
- Diet: Following an anti-inflammatory diet.

If your pain persists, consult your healthcare team for further evaluation and tailored treatment options.
