I Am Very Concerned About Teaching Again Being Immunocompromised. πHow Many Of You Had To Change Careers Or Quit Due To Your Health?
I began April 10th and have caught every germ I have been exposed to, including pneumonia.
Many people with chronic illnesses, including rheumatoid arthritis, have had to make difficult decisions about their careers due to their health. For example, one individual shared their experience of having to quit their beloved job as an entertainment writer after their doctor warned them that continuing to work could be Show Full Answer
I was able to work in a bakery briefly but needed to cut that short as I could not handle it and got stuck at home so now I am starting all over again. I am better off working from home as I can't work outside the home
I am a bodily injury claims adjuster and we work in office. I had to get a lifetime accommodation to work at home because I kept getting sick going to the office. In this moment, I'm so thankful this was an option.
Thank you for your input as well regarding protecting myself from the little germ factories,! I am going to try to teach this year and see how I do during the fall and winter months which are usually the worst for illness. If I continue to get sick regularly I will have to investigate other means of income for sure!
As far as being on too many medications, I do not think that is the problem. I have only taken Plaquenil since June 2022 and just started Methotrexate 3 weeks ago. Plaquenil doesn't weaken the immune system buty RA told me the other day that until my disease/inflammation gets controlled I will be vulnerable to illnesses. This is because our bodies are always in a state of illness per say while RA is active, so every germ that I come in contact with makes me sick. Hopefully, Methotrexate in combination with Plaquenil will be the answer because my Rheumatologist is trying them before the biologics . The biologics are much more apt to cause illness easy as well as cancers and other health issues!
Thank you again to all of you who offered your story to me! π€
I had to quit working years before I got my RA diagnosis. I was just too weak and had too many GI issues to work anymore. I still struggle with weakness and easy flare-ups so it's been about 9 years since I last worked. The only real positive thing is that I can't remember the last time I was actually sick. My immune system seems to be too strong and the meds don't suppress it enough.
If you don't mind me saying, it sounds like you might be on too many meds and your immune system is being too suppressed.
