I had a cardiac CT scan and incidentally there was mention of 2 nodules in my lung along with scarring ! I just had a CT scan and now have to be monitored by having another CT scan in 6 months. I read that RA is systemic and can affect lungs and even the heart. I also have Plaque in my arteries ! I exercise, am i good shape, don't eat junk, mostly a vegetarian... I was shocked and not very happy.

Yes, people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can develop lung nodules and cardiac plaque. Here are some details:

Lung Nodules:
- Formation: RA-related scarring within the lungs can lead to nodules forming.
- Characteristics: These nodules may look like lung cancer on scans but do not lead to cancer.
- Risks: A ruptured nodule can sometimes cause a collapsed lung, leading to breathing difficulties.

Cardiac Plaque:
- Increased Risk: People with RA are almost twice as likely to develop cardiovascular disease.
- Causes: High levels of inflammation in RA can lead to lower levels of circulating lipids, increasing the risk of heart disease.
- Conditions: This includes heart attack, stroke, heart failure, hypertension, and pericarditis.

Preventive Measures:
- Lifestyle Changes: Not smoking, eating healthy, staying active, and following RA treatment plans can help limit these risks.
