Question Regarding Surgery Effects On The Body

I believe that both my copd and my ra symptoms Increased drastically following 2 surgeries (hip and intestinal). Has anyone else or their doctor come to a similar conclusion regarding this possible connection?

I had a rotator cuff shoulder surgery in Sept of 2016 and diagnosed with RA in Oct of 2016. My shoulder hurts much worse and I get terrible flairups in it. So bad that I have to miss work. Worst pain I have ever felt in my life.

Thank for your response. Hope your ra symptoms calm down with treatment.
So sorry about knee. You are not alone regarding knee pain after replacement. Have you been getting physical therapy on a regular basis? Heard this is the key to getting better.

I had total knee replacement a year ago this month, and my RA seemed to get worse after that and has continually gotten worse. And, to top it all off, my knee still bothers me.

YES!!
I had a knee replacement in July 2020. The pain was getting worse, rather than better as time went by. Not just my knee, but my hips, wrists, other knee, feet. I got so the PT was too painful to do. My chiropractor is the one who suggested that I have blood work done to rule out RA. (He said I presented as possibly having RA).
Sure enough, the test came back indicating RA. I never had issues before the surgery. We truly believe the surgery "Woke the sleeping dragon"! I have a wonderful RA team, but are still working on pain control. Now my other knee needs replaced....and my hip. I am scared to get the surgeries because of my experience in 2020. But I am just going to do all I can pre surgery to strengthen my body...it's the best I can do. I walk with a cane, and spend a lot of time on my butt! No energy. Fall asleep anywhere...any time. Losing 50 pounds has been a challenge, but I'm slowly getting there..KETO. Surgery for my knee is scheduled for July 2023.

@ apm, Oh yes. Anything that stresses our bodies will give us an immune response. My ra showed up after a major surgical event in my life and my Dr agreed that it was my body's "last straw". I just saw on another ra site that a woman cut herself and it triggered a flare. This is crazy stuff we live with.

@A myRAteam Member, Wow you got a double whammy! Ouch, surgery and ra within a short time.
