Does Anyone Take Vitamin D? If So, How Much?
I see so many people on this site saying that they have less RA symptoms in the summer. If Vitamin D is the main healing factor in the sun, it seems logical that Vitamin D in the winter might give us the same result...
I was put on extreme amount in the beginning, have been on 2000iu daily for about 3 yrs. Just had bone density test done and have osteopenia, the beginning of osteoarthritis. Doctor added 1200 mg of calcium per day.
I have been on 50,000IU's for about a year now. Prednisone and low vitamin D messed my bones up causing osteomalacia and I have had 10 fractures in my pelvic area. I have been in and out of the hospital for 3 different weeks. Now I have ended up with (malignant) severe osteoporosis. I now have to take an injection nightly of Forteo for up to 2 years to help strengthen my bones. What a mess I have been in!!!
Get the blood work done and consult your Rheum. If you accidentally take too much vit D, it can be really bad.
I had low levels too. The amount of VItamin D our bodies need vary depending on our race. I am hispanic/latino so, my body does not absorve vitamin D as easily as it will be absorbed by the body of a white person. In other words, I need more vitamin D. I was taking 4.000 IU when I had defficiency. However, my Dr. Recommended me to go outdoors a lot because it is way better to produce/absorve the Vitamind D directly from the sun, than just taking a pill!
My Dr prescribed Vitamin D 50,000 UI once a week that I've been taking for five years. I have noticed no improvement in symptoms during any time of the year. Although I do feel much better in the summer.
