Traveling

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

One of the biggest things I find hard to cope with is feeling restricted from traveling. My husband and I used to travel about every 2 months buth in and outside the US. Now he's scared to travel outside the US and that I'll catch something or get sick and not have the medical care accessible to us here in the states. Anyone else faced with this or have been restricted? Anyone travel and have advice on precautions to take outside the US if I can convince him?

We have never been restricted from traveling. My dr provides a prescription in case I get a respiratory infection while we are gone. I carry my orencia injection in a chill pack. Carry, and use, insect repellent . Wear SPF clothing to keep from getting a bad sunburn. Hydrate well. All the things every one should do. We travel out of the country a couple of times a year and in the US a couple of times a year. Other than overdoing some days, have never had a major problem while gone

Hi Desiree. I wish I had a great answer for you but the only thing that I can think of is to talk to your doctor and see if there is anything that you can take to help boost your immune system and get any preventative treatments prior to traveling. Maybe you can research any accessible medical care in the areas that you are going to just in case you need their services. Don't give up on what you love. Improvise and find a way to keep enjoying your life. Good luck to you dear.

@A myRAteam Member I am going to the UK in October. First time traveling with injectable Methotrexate - You tell TSA before sending the injectable through security, I don't have to keep MTX cold but if you do make sure your ice pack is frozen or TSA will take your ice pack. This is what others here have told me. Keep all your meds with you in your carryon bag. I bought a special bag to keep injectable items in: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097GR5HNX?ref=ppx_yo...
