Heat Intolerances?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, I started having issues over the summer and had to live like a vampire. The instant the sun hit my face I started itching and would get a rash on my face. Now that it’s winter that’s not an issue. However, when I cook over the stove I have to tap out and have someone else take over because the same dang thing happens. I got over heated and my face itches. I’m going to bring it back up to my rheumy when I see him again. Does anyone else deal with this?

I experience a burning sensation and rash when out in the sun for a bit. I understand that the Hydroxychloroquine that I take causes that.

Heat intolerance and skin reactions, like itching and rashes, can be linked to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or its treatments. Some RA medications, such as NSAIDs or biologics, can increase sensitivity to heat or sunlight, causing rashes or discomfort. Overheating can also worsen inflammation or trigger skin issues. It's great you're planning to discuss this with your rheumatologist—they may adjust your treatment or recommend strategies to manage these symptoms.

Hi it's me TeresaRobinson3
I to suffer with the heat ad I do in the cold. Spring and Fall are my best time's. The heat does put me in a inflammation really bad that I visit the ER. We are in first name base's, I have been their so many time's. I have a chair in the shower so I can have a cool or warm shower depending on the season we're in.
I think when your in a pustion that you may need a medical alert you rear as a watch or it hangs on your neck where you push a button and help comes to you. I have one and let me tell you it's a life saver, I have had to push the button twice and the paramedic's are their in 2 to 5 minutes. But if you are passing out in the shower you need one. They are water Prof you can wear it in the shower. Please get one, also make sure someone knows what health problem's you have, someone you trust family or friends.
I better get to bed, you'll have a warm night.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I live in Texas we have extreme heat. I survive it. It’s difficult to get rheumatology to find the treatment that works to put RA patients into remission without some kind of side effects. Xeljanz I have to wear sunscreen or I get pre skin cancer or skin cancer. The goal is remission. And not to use Prednisone or Solu-Medrol dose packs so frequently it will destroy with consistent use.

Hi all. I live in South Africa in an area where it gets extremely hot, Normal summer temperatures of 107F. I am used to after being here almost 30 years, but the last 2 years I struggled in the heat. Need a good sunscreen every day. Stay indoors under the aircon. It makes me feel sick and dizzy.
