If I'm taking my ra med(Rinvoc) can I still get sick? I've been fighting what feels like a sinus infection with headaches, head pressure and some coughing that gives me a tighter chest. I'm taking otc meds but I wonder if we I can still get sick on the rinvoc? I thought it was supposed to make my immune system stronger so I could fight things easier, or is it the other way, does it attack my immune system which keeps the ra calm which makes me more susceptible to germs and bugs
Thanks..ps Iā€¦ read more

Deb,
I to am on a biologic which suppresses my immune system. Yes, I still have caught Covid-19, coughs, sinuses, and the occasional cold. I always keep airborne, Musinex, Robatussin and ginger candies on hand. I still mask up, if going out and do not subject myself to being in crowded spaces. Sometimes I need a steroid pack to fight off the cold and cough, but not often. I also do as many telemeds vs office visits as I can.
I hope this helps.

Deb, on a good day or string of good days, I'm steering the RA ship. On a bad day, I get the feeling it's taking over. Then there are times the RA Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks. Keep a lifejacket handy at all times folks.
I think the best any of us can do is ride the waves as best we can and not get overwhelmed.
And look for doctors who are prepared to work together with you, not dictate. Your doctor is not the captain. The problem these days you can't even find a doctor let alone a good one.

I'm on the third biologic: Rinvoq, then Humira (hyrimoz generic), now enter Actemra. Hoping this third try is the charm. One of the most common side effects of all three are upper respiratory, cold and sinus symptoms. I call it pseudo cold/flu because it feels like the real thing, but is it just symptoms of, So to speak.
But, as biologics lowers the immune system, maybe it actually is a cold/flu virus.
How do I tell the difference? I don't. I always have Dayquil and Nightquil on hand. Real or pseudo, I can feel miserable.
My rheumatologist says she doesn't know how to differentiate either. Very helpful.

Thanks everyone I tt my pcp and the bottom line is that my body needs to be rested, as stress free as possible and she reminded me that I need to practice mindful ness. I get wrapped up in the pain or the symptoms and then my brain goes and goes. I still have enough rinvoc for awhile so the plan is to let my body rest and get some meds then go to the dr after I've taken the meds. Not sure rheumy is thrilled but as PCP pointed out, if my other stuff is out of whack then my numbers will reflect that..I still want to be able to have some control over this and not feel like drs are just dictating every move..
Anyone ever feel like I do? I'm steering the ra ship, it's not steering me!
