It’s probably complicated. Meds, autoimmune disorder itself, pain. I started dieting 2022,lost 20 lbs over 1.5-2 years. Starting beginning of this year my weight plummeted and by now I lost 40-45 lbs total. My appetite is very low or absent. I have to very consciously make sure I get 1400 cal per day or I will lose weight. And it’s rapid, 1-2 lbs per day if I don’t eat 1400 cal per day. I was also very nauseated for several weeks but that’s mostly gone. I saw Endocrinologist and she really only encouraged me to continue tapering off Prednisone and come back for Cosyntropine stimulation test to rule out adrenal insufficiency.
The rapid weight loss correlates time wise with steroid taper in my case. Prednisone increases appetite, it’s an anabolic and shifts metabolic pathways toward holding on to every calorie.
When Prednisone is decreased or stopped metabolism shifts toward catabolic processes and your body burns calories.
I was very worried, and I still am. I’ ll continue to follow up w my doctors.
There is also RA cachexia - I would recommend reading about it.
I weigh myself nearly every day to make sure I don’t go below certain weight, and I make sure I get my calories. Also, using premade shakes ( like Ensure etc) helps me get necessary calories.

Good morning, I took Naltrexone for some time back in 2021 when I first began to have joint pain, stiffness , warmth and swelling but never thought my lack of appetite was due to this medication. In fact, I really didn't get any relief for pain with it and I believe my Dr at the time said it does not reduce inflammation. Rheumatic diseases can cause all types of multi-body symptoms, including reduced appetite. I, too, must remind myself to eat something healthy in the AM hours because I just don't feel hungry. When I first began having symptoms of RA,Psoriasis etc, I had symptoms like Crohns disease around the clock with nausea and vomiting sometimes for 8 months, then it stopped. I, sometimes get nauseated now, but no more vomiting; knock on wood! There are alternative forms of pain and inflammation treatments that will increase your appetite, like Gummies and a dispensary can steer you towards a strength/potency that is not intended to get you"high", but relieve pain, stiffness, and help you sleep better! I hope you find some relief, but know with the cocktails we are put on with autoimmune diseases it can surely be difficult to escape the negative effects of drugs!

Also, there’s other causes unrelated to RA that can cause weight loss- you got to see your doctors and tell them, and keep advocating for yourself and address every issue. RA can be life consuming disease but keep taking care of yourself.
