Yes, it's possible for people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to experience lower back pain, although RA typically affects other joints. Here are some points to consider:

- Indirect Effects: RA can increase the risk of osteoporosis, which can lead to vertebral fractures and back pain.
- Mechanical Issues: Pain in other joints (like hips and knees) can alter your gait, causing back pain over time.
- Other Causes: Conditions like osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, or muscle strains could also be contributing to your back pain.

It's important to discuss these symptoms with your doctor to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment.

I agree, get an MRI. I had lower back pain.mine was due to spinal stenosis. I've had 2 surgeries. No regrets. I have few limitations but that's nothing compared to the pain before surgery. Take care..

Hi Les, I have degenerative disc disease in my spine. My discs are bulging and herniated. I have pain every day neck and back. My neck is riddled with arthritis. Most neck and back arthritis is osteoarthritis. If you have what I have the arthritis damaged the discs and methotrexate or pretty much any med will not fix it. I have pinched nerve roots as well.

All we can do is PT for strength and to keep the function we have. Ask about an MRI if you can. Wish I could have gotten one sooner before I had this level of damage. Can not dwell on it just have to keep moving forward. Hope it helps you. Take care.
