I Had Carpal Tunnel And Triger Release And A Bone Removed Below My Thumb. Also My Tendons And Nerves Re-routed. Is This Common?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

My surgeon said that the Rheumatoid Arthritis had caused my body's immune system to fight back by growing a extra bone below my thumb. I also had carpal tunnel and triger finger. It is to soon to tell how well the surgery worked. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas in regards to this type of surgery?

Hi Cheryli, Well i had both my carpel tunnels operated on. I was pleased to have it done. I could have chopped my hands off with the pain that I was having, but hopefully it will stay away now. I have not had any extra bone growth, but have lots of nodules and big lumps. Hope you feel ok and do not worry. Just take things easy and steady. Roy.

It's not uncommon for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to undergo multiple hand surgeries, including carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, and even procedures that involve the tendons and nerves. These surgeries aim to relieve symptoms and improve hand function. However, the specifics of each surgery, like bone removal or rerouting tendons and nerves, depend on individual cases and the severity of the condition. It's important to have a thorough discussion with a healthcare provider to understand the benefits and risks of each procedure.
