Sciatic, scoliosis and degenerative disease.
Are steroid injections for back effective and safe? How long do they last?

I have epidural injections every 3-4 months. I have for years. While painful, they are very helpful. Be aware on rare occasions they can cause a horrible headache that last for days. I’ve had that experience once. I think the odds are 1:300.

WildWestNM thank you for your share. I've had two steroid injections that only gave slight improvement. Then they tried ablation on both right and left sides. Only slight improvement there, too. Unfortunately they didn't find the right place that the nerve pain that goes down both my hips and legs is coming from. I was unaware there was such a thing as an upright MRI. I will definitely bring that up to my doctor and see if they can find the "right spot" that's causing my pain since it only happens when I'm either standing or sitting. Thanks again!

So my pain management specialist does mine. I have stenosis from L2-S-1 and I would suggest you have an upright MRI so your injector can get the exact spot needed to help you. My last epidural was January and I have had no pain at all since he did my MRI and got the exact combination 😁.
Good luck hon.

I have been through numerous injections and rhizotomies with a pain management dr . But I have learned to go to a neurosurgeon, he did what is called an open rhizotomy and it has finally helped . I will only go to pain management for my pain pills !!! No more injections

Injections have always helped me. Maybe I just respond well to cortisone. I've also had the nerves fried. It also helped. I have to be careful as I am a diabetic. Cortisone can affect your glucose. You have to keep closer watch. That's been the only drawback for me
