I have decided to not see my rheumy anymore I thought I was told I could continue taking it and that going off it would not harm me or cause withdrawal. I cannot reach my dr for any answers and the rinvoc rep just directs me back to the dr . I thought I was initially told that this med i would have to stop if I got sick . I'm so frustrated that I'm just going in circles with this dr but my worrier brain has me all panicked that if I stop it something bad could happen..again cant reach my dr… read more

I'm not on Rinvoc. I'm so sorry you are having this frustrating communication issue. I have difficulties getting ahold of my rheum also, but finally feel like I have an understanding of what I'm supposed to do when I get sick. Unfortunately, I'm getting sick a lot, and therefore am off of my mtx and hydroxychloroquine often. I'm not sure how much good the DMARDs are doing because I can't seem to stay on them long enough. Take care.

Deb,
Call your PCP or better your Pharmacist, breath and calmly explain that you cannot get advice from your Rheumatologist, at this time. Also, ask if they have a suggestion for a better Rheumatologist. It is diffinantly time for a change.
Also, if your insurance offers a patient advocate you can always have them help you find a new Rheumatologist.
Please keep us updated!

Hi Deb, sorry to hear that you’re having such a difficult time getting through to your doctor. That would be so frustrating . I was told that while on antibiotics to stop taking my ra meds. Then resume. We’re all different. Hope you get some answers asap. Sending hugs and prayers your way 🙏🏻

I was on rinvoq in the past and when I switched to another biologic I took it up to the day before I switched. Rinvoq half life is like 8-14 hours, so by the next day you would be needing the next dose. If you are unwell or having surgery they usually adjust to not having for a set amount of time. I'm so sorry you are having so many communication issues with your rheumatologist. I would try and still communicate with that rheumatologist while actively switching. I would be very upset as the rheumatologist is such a vital person for us. I really hope you feel better Deb ❤️

It’s understandable to feel frustrated and worried in this situation. It’s understandable to feel frustrated and worried in this situation. Based on my knowledge base, medications like Rinvoq (a JAK inhibitor) often require careful management, especially when you're ill or on antibiotics. The ACR (American College of Rheumatology) suggests temporarily stopping immunosuppressants like JAK inhibitors during illness to allow your immune system to recover, but this should always be done under a doctor’s guidance.

Stopping Rinvoq suddenly is not known to cause withdrawal, but your rheumatoid arthritis symptoms could flare up if the medication is stopped. It’s crucial to consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication. If you can’t reach your rheumatologist, consider contacting your primary care doctor or another healthcare provider for advice. They may be able to guide you on how to proceed safely.

In the meantime, try to stay calm and focus on managing your current illness. You’re doing the right thing by seeking answers, and hopefully, you’ll get clarity soon. 💙
