If you're considering hip replacement surgery, here are some tips based on my knowledge base:

1. Pre-Surgery Preparation: Strengthen your leg muscles beforehand to aid recovery. If you're overweight, losing weight can reduce infection risks. Smokers should quit, and diabetics should manage blood sugar levels.

2. Post-Surgery Recovery: Start moving as soon as possible, often the same day. Use crutches or a walker as needed and follow your physical therapist's guidance.

3. Home Setup: Arrange your home to avoid stairs and keep essentials within easy reach. Use chairs with firm backs and avoid low seating.

4. Avoid Certain Movements: Don’t cross your legs, bend too far forward, or sit for long periods without moving.

I wasn't clear. Optimum Medicare Advantage wouldn't cover it. Two days after hip replacement, I was walking up and down the stairs. Then I was sent home with nothing. Fight for your rights. You have a right through your insurance for proper care. Hear about the insurance company in Connecticut? They decided to cover anesthesia for only a specific time no matter how long the operation took. A proper flaming from the internet made them back down. My insurance options are governed by a third party and I have their number. They don't want to hear from me. I had to explaing to them that I had tow different cancers, that's why I had more MRI's than they allow in a year for what they judged to be the same area. I won't bore you but I kept that woman on the the phone 'til she understood. I taught special ed; she finally understood.

Get bone density scans when appropriate to see if a hip fracture is imminent. Make sure you have appropriate rehab to avoid ending up with a walker. My insurance wouldn't cover it.
