Way back when I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol, I didn't fit the parameters of the usual person. Per the doctor. I was 125 lbs 35 years old in good active health. They put me on a no fat no cholesterol diet. My levels didn't budge. They tried some natural concoction that a place made in town to lower cholesterol. Didn't touch it. They said I have hereditary cholesterol. My grandmother had extremely high cholesterol. When they put me on the statin it instantly dropped to a healthy level.
There are issues many patients go through, the fact being a cardiologist and a patient should be the ONLY two that work this out together. I went a few rounds with my cardiologist, asked multiple questions until I got the needed answers. I highly suggest you doing the same with your cardiologist is as they can give you more information to help your health care.
I work with a cardiologist, have done so since 2020. Was diagnosed with RA in 2013. Have an issue with my cholesterol, with that being said the particular medication being taken is closely monitored by my specialist to ensure everything stays well for my health.
I don’t think it is RA meds, but the autoimmune that raises cholesterol and glucose. Mine skyrocketed when I was diagnosed with both RA and autoimmune hepatitis, taking only prednisone. Recently I asked my hepatologist, and he said there are no contraindications to taking cholesterol meds as long as my PCP thinks it reduces my risk of cardiovascular disease. I have always eaten the “heart healthy” diet and am actually underweight. I plan to try taking omega-3 to see if that helps before considering cholesterol meds. And even if the autoimmune drugs were the cause, the benefits, especially of my biologic drug, are too high to give them up.
