Good morning Karen,

I thought Rituxan worked well for pain. It does take about 4 to 6 weeks to work. Are you experiencing any side effects from the medication?

Rituxan (rituximab) is a biologic DMARD used to treat adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who have had an inadequate response to TNF antagonist therapies. Here are some key points about Rituxan:

- Mechanism: Rituxan works by inhibiting B-lymphocyte cells, preventing them from attacking connective tissues.
- Administration: It is given as two intravenous infusions, 15 days apart. Each infusion takes between two to four hours.
- Effectiveness: It begins taking effect about six weeks after the second infusion, with effects lasting up to six months.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include infusion reactions, fever, chills, low white blood cell counts, and infections. Rare but serious side effects include severe infections, heart problems, and a serious brain infection called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).
