Has Anyone Been Prescribed Rituxan Infusions?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve had RA for 15 yrs & have been on different treatments, but over time they stop working. I’ve been told now that I need to be on infusions to prevent more joint damage. My feet, ankles, wrist & hands are the worst. I have my apprehensions about doing the infusions because of side effects.

I have also had to stop and start different drugs. I just had to stop my Orencia infusions recently because they stopped working. Now I'm on Xelzanz XR. While I was taking the infusions it worked great for two years. There are side effects in every drug for RA. If it works for you, you'll have to weigh out the pros and cons. Good luck and God bless. ❤️

I have been using these infusions for 3 years now, they have helped my joint pain very much, reduced swellling,my knees and wrist where so bad I was almost immobile, but In am doing allot better. The only side effect I have is after each infusion I get severe migraine, only times I have them,it starts during treatment and lasts until next day

I actually felt better for the first weeks, probably because of the steroids, and now nine weeks later the pain and swelling are coming back worse than it was when on other med. not sure what that means but have rheumy appt in couple weeks. Ive also gained ten pounds since my infusion without doing anything different and my skin itches. I think im going crazy. Lol

I have been on so many meds as well, started Remicade about 2 mos ago. It seems to help for a few weeks. I'm hopeful this will work.

I just rec'd both of my infusions, 2 weeks apart (1st one was 6 hours, 2nd one was 4 1/2 hours). All other previous meds had stopped working. At first I was leery because of the side effects, but after going to emerg due to being in excruciating pain, I figured there can't be too much worse. Besides, having RA has already decreased our mortality so I want to live my life as pain free as possible. I was told that it would take a month to take effect, however, it will be a month on tuesday, and unless something drastic happens in the next 3 days, it will definitely be longer than a month to kick in. I did read under "treatments" (above) that it said it can take up to 6 weeks AFTER the second infusion which makes more sense to me. I never thought to ask, nor did the doc/nurses tell me that piece of information so I still have another month or so to go before I hopefully have some relief. If this doesn't work, I have no idea what's next. lol, so after all that, I guess its just too early to tell if it's working lol .......... hope this helped even a little bit :)
