I struggle with this constantly. Make skin care a priority...I spend 1 to 1.5 hours just on skin care every day. Try a bath, instead of a shower, and not every day if you can. Or keep showers as short as possible. I use epsom salts and coconut oil in the water, or slather the oil on after. It's important to make sure you exfoliate the old skin! I also use a moisturizer couple times a day. I use this opportunity to massage sore muscles and joints at the same time. This is how I tend to find any new lumps or problem areas as well. I like the aveeno or vaseline line of moisturizers...sometimes both as they work in different ways. Some work to seal moisture in, while some work to add it to the skin. A few do both. Use what works best for you. Taking extra care of your skin now will avoid worse later....trust me.

I've been staying hydrated daily, I also began using Gold Bond Healing for my hands. What I haven't mentioned is I damaged my hand a few years back, 3rd degree burn so it will always need attention. Anyway, In the mornings I've been using the Gold Bond Healing as it is a hand lotion that I can use a small amount then massage them from fingertips to wrists which does help what I need to do for that damage that took place years ago. By doing that it also helps the RA in my opinion.

I have another from the same company that is called Gold Bond Overnight Deep Moisturizing that is wonderful as it helps my legs as well as feet that are extremely dry throughout the year. The dryness gets very bad during the fall and winter so this item is a lifesaver. I have noticed just by placing a small amount on your fingertips then placing it onto the areas of dryness of the skin the item has given me a large improvement. My feet looked like an African desert once before and now they are starting to look much more healthier.

I hope the above information helps and you begin to feel better soon!

- Lifestyle Factors:
- Taking long, hot baths or showers frequently
- Washing hands often
- Using soaps and detergents that strip moisture

- Other Factors:
- Skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
- Certain medications
- Aging, which reduces natural oil production

Symptoms:
- Scaling, flaking, or peeling skin
- Rough skin texture

- Itching
- Cracks in the skin that may bleed

Self-Care Tips:
- Moisturize Regularly:
- Use ointments, creams, or lotions 2-3 times a day, especially on damp skin.
- Look for moisturizers containing ceramides, urea, or lactic acid.

- Bathing Habits:
- Take short, warm baths or showers (5-10 minutes).
- Avoid hot water.
- Pat skin dry and apply moisturizer immediately after bathing.

- Avoid Irritants:
- Use gentle skin cleansers instead of regular soap.
- Avoid products with alcohol, fragrances, dyes, or other chemicals.
- Wear soft, comfortable clothing and avoid rough fabrics like wool.
- Wash clothes with detergents free of dyes or fragrances.

- Hydration:
- Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

When to See a Doctor:
- If you feel itchy without a visible rash
- If dryness and itching keep you from sleeping
- If you have open cuts or sores from scratching
- If self-care tips do not relieve your dryness and itching

If your symptoms persist or worsen, it might be a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment.
