I Am Curious About Timing When It Comes To Getting The Flu And RSV Vaccines

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Council Bluffs, IA

It was suggested to me a wait time of 2 weeks after getting the flu vaccine before having the RSV done. However since I am now taking MTX has that wait time increased? Does the MTX shot get skipped for a week as it would after the Covid update?

Could you please clarify if you're asking about the timing for getting flu and RSV vaccines in relation to each other, or are you inquiring about their timing in the context of COVID-19 vaccinations?

I will be visiting the RA specialist in March so will be reaching out with this particular question. I already have the vaccinations of COVID and flu. Will make a point to bring up the question to see what's best for my health.

Hi Su, when I was recently in the hospital with double pneumonia I asked about the pneumonia, flu and RSV vaccines. I was told that the pneumonia vaccine would also cover me for flu and RSV. I’m going to get the pneumonia vaccine this week.

Hi SuElf,

I recommend contacting your rheumatologist's office and speaking to her nurse. They can get back to you on whether or not you should stop the methotrexate.

My Rheumatologist recommended I have all vaccines. I had a bad reaction to the RSV vaccine and have been ill since then. This doesn't mean the same will happen to you. We're all different.

The protocol I use for my vaccines is based on how I reacted to them in the past. Two years ago, I had the flu vaccine and COVID booster together. I had a substantial flare-up. I then determined last year to have them one month apart.

Good luck to you.
