Does Anyone Have Problems With Thin, Brittle, Peeling Finger Nails? And Any Ideas On How To Strengthen Them.

I am currently taking xeljanz for my RA, I recently stopped taking methotrexate. I started having issues with my nails in the last year or so and seems to be getting worse. Looking for advice on how to strengthen my nails.

My Rheumatologist from the beginning had certain supplements that I needed to stay with. Fish oil at a minimum of 3000 mg was one in addition to calcium, Vitamin D and Turmeric. Methotrexate also requires a prescribed level of Folic acid. I had some deterioration along my sideburn area of my hairline and some brittleness on my nails. Both previously were thick and strong. The issues over time resolved and I credit both my adding the vitamins & supplements and deciding to follow a diet closer to Mediterranean foods and preparation. I strictly use olive oil too. I discuss these thoughts with my Rheumatologist who initially let me know way back that while research was looking good for Turmeric, it had yet been endorsed but she had no medical issues with me deciding to add it to my regiment. Two years after that conversation she walked into one of my appointments and let me know that the American Arthritis Association had endorsed it. I believe that offsetting the medications requires a lot of diligent efforts but for me I believe that nutrition is a primary priority with this condition. I had more than one doctor basically tell me “seek to eat food as close to how Hod made it as possible”.

It takes a village to do this.
