Yes RA can effect your ankles and feet, which can effect your balance. I use ice, massage and stretches. I do stretches before I even get out of bed in the mornings to get the stiffness out. Walk everyday even on bad days I just walk slower. It helps me a lot.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can significantly affect your ankles, feet, and overall balance. Here are some key points:

Effects on Ankles and Feet:
- Joint Pain and Swelling: RA primarily causes joint pain and swelling, which can make walking or performing daily tasks difficult.
- Instability: Pain and swelling may lead to instability, increasing the risk of falls.
- Joint Deformities: If not treated early, RA can cause joint deformities, particularly in the feet and lower extremities, compromising stability and range of motion.

Effects on Balance:
- Muscle Weakness: RA can weaken muscles and impair the central nervous system, contributing to balance problems.
- Medication Side Effects: Some RA medications, like corticosteroids and DMARDs, may cause dizziness, affecting balance.
- Comorbidities: Conditions like heart disease and neurological issues associated with RA can also lead to balance problems.

Managing Balance Problems:
- Consult Your Rheumatologist: They can perform tests, review medications, and recommend treatments.
- Physical Therapy: Exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and balance can be beneficial.
- Assistive Devices: Using canes or other devices can help maintain stability.
- Healthy Lifestyle: Getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and avoiding alcohol can improve balance.
- Low-Impact Exercises: Activities like swimming or tai chi can help improve balance and reduce joint pain.

My RA started in my feet and ankles and the pain has now lasted 6 mths. I am currently on Leflunomide and infusions of Simponi Aria. I am set to get my third infusion Feb 8th. I’m hoping these meds work. I was told it could take a while. Haven’t found much to relieve the pain until the meds start working. I have some better days than others. Currently using a walker due to my balance being off. It’s been tough since I went from walking 5 miles a day to my feet not holding me but I stay optimistic and hope that I will get better. Please know you’re not alone and if anyone knows of anything that helps relieve the pain other than Tylenol arthritis let me know. Take care.

My balance is affected, and I have started to fall more often. My ankle have been stiff almost everyday. My medicine does not help. I am trying to get more movement in my day, but I feel so tired all the time. I know I have to push, but it is so hard when I am hurting so bad and afraid I will fall.
