My Doctor helped me by writing excuse for me to be unable to work for some months...then at least a year...before they let me go...as they were trying to do! Gradually they did drop me but by then work's disability insurance kept me going until I got my ssd approved on the 2nd try. They couldn't take away my life insurance policy either because I was disabled.

I also have Fmla but no accommodations. Have 7 years to retire but honestly thinking of trying for disability soon. Don't know where to start.

I personally haven't been fired or let go from a job due to RA, however my husband was let go last year from his job because he had to have 2 knee replacements. His employer told him if he had the surgery they would let him go because they couldn't do without him that long. The location he worked at only had 3 people so they did not have the Federal medical leave act. Maryland is a Hire at will state so employer can just let you go for any reason unless you can prove discrimination or that you were actually let go for your medical condition. That is what we were told by a lawyer when we asked if it was legal for my husband's employer to let him go just because he had to have surgery. The lawyer said they could just say it was a business decision. I am sure it is different from state to state. Hope this helps. Hugs.
