Ok Years Ago My Dr Diagnosed Me With RA When I Went In With My Feet And Hands Hurting. He Told Me My RA Factor Was Positive

And with clinical assessment I had RA. I didn’t see lab results then but I do know my inflammation rate has never been high even though I’ve had days I could barely move. He said since prednisone helps that’s another indication. I saw my last results where he ran full profile - my RA factor had a level but was not “positive” or “negative”. Now I’m confused. Everything else was normal even though I was hurting. I’ve tried getting off Leflunomide (arava) before but was in terrible pain. Anyone… read more

Blood work alone doesn't diagnose RA. I have bone erosion and significant swelling that shows up on MRIs, but I have little indication of inflammation in my blood work and I am seronegative. One of my doctors told me the slightest inflammation can be enough to stretch the nerves and cause a lot of pain. If you're not seeing a rheumatologist, I suggest you do. I've found my primary care doctor has little understanding of inflammatory arthritis.

My RA was diagnosed by an MRI.
My suggestion is that you choose your worst joint and have an MRI.
My MRI showed "synovial enhancement".

I had to stope Arava because I developed neuropathy. My PC recommended that I get off and I did and the neuropathy went away. My PC is great and she also copes with RA. So I know she was correct. And my RA did not object.

It sounds like your doctor diagnosed you with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on your symptoms and a positive rheumatoid factor (RF) test. Here are some key points about RF and RA:

- Rheumatoid Factor (RF): RF is a group of antibodies that can attack your own tissues. A positive RF test indicates higher-than-average levels of these antibodies, which is common in RA.
- Diagnosis: While a positive RF test is a strong indicator, it is not the only factor. Other tests, such as the anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody test, are also used to confirm RA.
- Symptoms: Pain in the hands and feet is a common symptom of RA, which often leads to further testing and diagnosis.

If you have any concerns or need further clarification, it's best to discuss them with your healthcare provider.

Thanks. I just need to research the testing etc. I also have thyroid issues (another autoimmune) so fatigue is my middle name. 😞
