Ganglion Cysts

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Carroll, IA

Does anyone else have ganglion cysts on joints? Is this a RA thing? What does a RA nodule look and feel like? It's on the outside ankle joints of both ankles. And I I have one that is on the inside of my elbow bend (right next to the vein they draw blood from) that hurts. They've all appeared in the last 2 months. I had one on the top of my wrist this fall, but it has gone way down.
Any info would be great.

This is urgent dear friend. I had cyst on my hand the size of a silver dollar. Pcp Dr kept draining with a needle. It kept coming back. I lost 3 fingers in one week. It had ra disease inside it. Eating the tendons to my fingers. They had to take a tendon from my pointing finger to repair the 3 I lost. The hand dr told me you must remove the cyst with its bag and all. The nodules are about dime size. Can be below the skin or on it. Have 3 in one spot. Rheumy said harmless but an indicator of how severe your disease is. Please do not take my word as fact. Just my experience. Talk to your rheumy. The wrist is particularly vulnerable to ra damage. I can say one thing for sure....if you ignore RA it will do some serious damage without you feeling a single thing.

The cyst is soft like a water bag. The nodules are firm round dime sized. Neither painful. Cyst is very quietly destructive. Just watch it carefully.

@A myRAteam Member Nodules are most common around fingers & elbows but can pop up anywhere. It sounds like the bump between your toes could be a nodule but you should have your doctor look at it. My hubby jokes with me because he thinks I go to the doctor for silly things like a hang nail. I say if having a doctor look at whatever is ailing me gives me comfort then I'm going to the doctor as much as I need then I usually tell him to "talk to the hand"!
