Best Remedies And Preventatives For Hand Pain
I write and use the computer a lot at home and work. I have one book published and am writing the second but my writing has went down since my hands hurt if I work for more then an hour. I've started wearing compression gloves at work when I have a ton to type but my hands are still wrecked after a long day of typing. Has anyone found a good preventative or after care for joint pain in you hands, fingers, thumbs?
The best thing I found when I was working was Dragon dictation software, after a couple of months it was pretty much word perfect and I could dictate even lying down.
I am also a writer. I have Dragon software but have yet to install it. I have found that using an ergonomic keyboard helps, but is not he answer. I do not type for more than 15 minutes at a time before a break - I can't. I use Siri a lot on my iPhone. I have a friend who dictates everything because her hands are so bad. I don't know if your work situation will let you dictate, but if it does, I do think it's a good idea to try, and also changing your keyboard. If you work on a laptop, you can attach it externally - that's what I do.
What about the"Dragon Program" for the computer is an option that is inexpensive and easy to install. You talk it types.
Have you heard of Dragon Naturally Speaking? Even google has a free software that will write for you. Its really accurate (You give them a sample of your voice and there are certain indicators.. like you say "comma" and "period" for what you mean.) It could really help you out when your hands are acting up!
I ordered gloves/braces off of amazon that have built in ice packs. They are a lifesaver!! It's nice to be able to work and ice at the same time.
