I cannot use any cheap jewelry. As soon as I put on cheap earrings my ear lobes burn and turn read. I used to put Neosporin on the studs but that doesn't work anymore. I've had RA for about 35 years.

Remember that RA is an autoimmune disease. I've been told by my former Rheumatologist and an orthopedic surgeon that piercings and tattoos are bad for people with autoimmune diseases as the body sees the areas as wounded and tries to fight with your antibodies and many times, fails. Although I don't recommend piercings or tattoos for people with RA, at least pre-medicate with antibiotics before getting any.

I have to use surgical steel or silver, anything else causes swelling and irritation.

Glad I read this. I was thinking of getting my ears repierced. My one grew shut and I thought of getting it redone. I can only wear stainless steel earrings, at least when they were both open that I could wear earrings.
