I had the cartilage pierced in my left ear years ago. Took me about 2 years before I could comfortably sleep on that side of my head. It is fine now. I have 5 piercings in my left ear and 2 in my right. They are a pain to remove for MRI's, etc.

I did mine myself as a few years back I had it do e and it was horribly painful and did not heal. I let it close after a few months. I recently did both of my ears about two months ago and they are doing well. Couldn't decide which ear so chose both. Once healed I will alternate the earing from one side to other. I think the trauma of the piercing gun crushed surrounding cartilage, doing mine with a special sterilize needle seemed to avoid damage, nice and clean.

ahhhh gotcha. Well, that makes sense as to why you ask. Then I would not really have an educated answer on that one. I still have my piercing in the ear and don't have any pain there. Maybe because there isn't bone squeezing on it, perhaps.
