It can be something called costrochondritis. This however typically hurts when you push on the area that hurts. A person must be careful when that area hurts as you never know if it's heart related.

When the sternum hurts, it feels like the bone is trying to burst through the chest. When I first experienced that pain, my dr said it was Costrochondritis. I can't remember what I did to stop the pain.

I’ve been wondering about that?, it’s quite painful especially when I’ve eaten I feel very heavy in that area.
