I think most of the RA meds tend to hurt your immune system. Be sure to take lots of vitamin C, especially during cold and flu season. I also take vitamin D, and Tumeric! đź’—

I found that the steroid pacs are a cheat that has worked for me twice in the last year. RA for over 12 years and this last year was terrible. My PCP was the one who prescribed it. My Rheumatologist was too hesitant to do the steroid route, but it knocked the whole fatigue and flu feeling in a matter of 3 days! It's a short-term cure for me! I just can't do it as often as I wish I could—there are too many downsides to steroid dependency.

I never used to get colds or viruses. All my years teaching and working with primary age kids. Even living with autoimmine conditions, managed just fine. Since I've been on various biologics for over 3 years now, I always have cold symptoms, getting over a cold or gearing up for the next one.

2. Vaccines: Ensure you're up-to-date on flu and pneumonia vaccines (consult your doctor first).
3. Rest and hydration: Prioritize recovery with plenty of fluids and rest.
4. Discuss with your doctor: Ask if adjusting your methotrexate dose or pausing it during illness is appropriate.

Stay proactive and consult your doctor for personalized advice!

Jennifer, I pray you don't have the CVID. My grandkids were toxic to my husband and I, but they had to live with us for awhile after their dad passed away. So we kept a lot of "hanitzer" my granddaughter called it that when she was younger. But they are not too sanitary when they have runny noses. My sister in law was a 6th grade teacher and had to quit because she got sick all the time from the kids. She had a low immune system too. Good luck to you. I've been there, I worked with the public before I medically retired. It's hard enough to stay healthy with chronic illnesses.
