Has Anyone Ever Taken A Medication Holiday, As They Say? How Did You Feel?
Thank you ladies for educating me. I've taken such 'holidays' in the past, not knowing the terminology. I too, am tired of taking pills thruout the day, and the one pill I take for the neuropathy doesn't work like it used to. But the dr will not change it bc the side effects are not as severe as the alternative. I appreciate this forum. Each of you have a great weekend.
Depends on the med and how long you've been taking it, I'd guess. And maybe considering labs.
But if you have been in remission, it is good to stop and see if your body can manage without the RA meds. Also to give your liver and probably other internal workings a break. Might be smart to allow our immune system to reboot so as to avoid infections and viruses?
I'm no expert and only have stopped bc of side effects or to rid my system of one drug bfr starting another. So never had a vacation.
I've had to stop RA drugs, and others, for surgeries and during 6 months of cancer, surgery and radiation. My RA symptoms and pain flared miserably. Rather proved that I needed in my system the meds stopped, so some benefit, I guess. I review all my many meds for various conditions yearly with my PCP. Are they doing what they're supposed to do, and adjust to see what happens. Some, we don't mess with as the results can be disastrous. It's a good exercise with your PCP.
I totally agree not to change or drop prescribed meds without talking to your doctor.
I'd like to take myself and my meds on a holiday, preferably all-inclusive somewhere warm.
Good morning Paula,
It wasn't by choice that my medication was stopped. I had an allergic reaction to Rituxan infusions after a year. My medication was stopped, and I haven't been on another medication since. The Rheumatologist made the decision to give my system a break. During the first 3 months off the medication, I had a good amount of pain, but slowly the pain has subsided. It's been over a year off of medication, I have pain daily but it's tolerable. We're all different, your system reactions may be different than mine.
I've never heard the term. I pled naivete. Does that mean not taking any meds during the holiday season? If so, I've never done it...too chicken! What's the rationale behind it? 🤔 Please educate this educator !!!!
