Hi Nancy,
I understand, when I was on Methotrexate I felt like a wet washcloth, no energy at all. Working was impossible.
With XeljanzXR there has been a great improvement for me, but RA itself can cause fatigue. From experience I have found that pacing yourself is key. On days that we feel well, we tend to overdo, then we are down for 2 to 3 days.
Seeing as you are already ahead of the game, with the type of excercise you are doing, I would seek a different med(s) and go from there. Rinvoq is another med that my Rheumatologist recommends for here patients with good results.
The other thing is I Take my meds at 8 p.m., so hopefully a good night's sleep and time release I will not have fatigue.

Hi Nancy,
I understand about Methotrexate. It is usually the first line of defense and what most doctors and insurance companies require. Now, having said that here is what I suggest...keep a journal (mine is on my phone) with the date, time, med and any reactions good or bad, that you can share with your Rheumatologist. It takes approximately 3 months on average to know if a med is working for you. Unfortunately, because we all react differently to this crazy disease and the meds we take, try and fail is currently the most relied on method of finding your working med.
Personally I could not tolerate Methotrexate, had to try and fail many others, but my working med is Xeljanz XR, which is a daily pill that is time released.
Many others on the site have been on Methotrexate for years and have done really well. Some take pills, others take shots, some do IV.
Taking Folic Acid with this med is highly recommended as it helps reduce side affects.
Please know that with all of the meds you will see side affects listed that showed up in clinical trials as well as to patients after a med was approved by the FDA. It does not mean that everyone will have those side affects.
I keep the same type of journal for the foods I eat.
I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. My primary issue with Methotrexate after being on Prednisone 5mg with no issues was lethargy. I’m an avid tennis player and still work. I felt like doing nothing. Maybe I have to learn to deal with it. I’ve only been suffering for about 2 yrs with this! Do you still have tiredness with your new RX? Thnx, Nancy
