Orencia

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Walla Walla, WA

Hi, tomorrow my orencia will be delivered. I will be starting it when it arrives. I have done injections with Enbrel and Humira, but I am wondering if there any tips anyone has. I’m pretty nervous about starting a new med. I’m hoping it goes smoothly and side effects are minimal.

So this. I am NO doctor. However - Remicade, Actemra, Orencia are all Biologics. They do the same thing via a different pathway. Again i am no DR...But- I have been on all three of them. All three of them are Dr.office IV infusions. NOT an injection at home. Only Humaria and EnBrel are self injections at home. Orencia could be IV'ed [ Dr.off.] every 50 or 60 or 90 days. As it turned out,, for me,, Remicade worked best for me. I am now on Humaria which is now called Hyrimoz. Same drug new name. If you have already taken Humaria and saw no improvement - these class of meds need months to work effectively. And saw no help....then,,, i cannot say what Orencia or Actemra will do for you. My best MED is Huemira,, Hyrimoz.
Good Luck.

1. Education: Understand why you are taking Orencia and how it is expected to help you. This can alleviate some anxiety.
2. Administration: Orencia can be administered as a subcutaneous injection once a week or as an intravenous infusion. Follow your doctor's instructions exactly.
3. Side Effects: Be aware of common side effects like headache, respiratory infections, and nausea. Contact your doctor if you experience severe infections or allergic reactions.
4. Monitoring: Different medications require different monitoring. Ensure you know the frequency of lab tests and office visits needed.
5. Symptom Journal: Keep a daily symptom journal to track your mood, pain, side effects, and other physical symptoms. This can help you and your doctor assess the medication's effectiveness.

Remember, it's normal to feel nervous, but being well-prepared can make the process smoother. Good luck with your new treatment!

I have been taking Orencia for over 2 years and the injection has been easy. I actually prefer the pre filled syringe instead of the auto injection. Hurts less for me. Orencia had been pretty good for me.

I have been on large doses of steroids because all this inflammation which is making my life very difficult. I am interested if you have any info on the Orencia that may help me. They also asked me if I wanted a certain injection because what there are 2 kinds? Thank you in advance for any information that may be helpful. Have a nice day.!
