Can Chest Pain And Low Oxygen Levels Be Connected With Severe RA?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

About half a year ago, just a little before the surgery I had on my VNS battery, I had some bad chest pain and even saw a heart doctor. I failed 3 EKG's or heart tests - but was still able to get the surgery for the new battery for the VNS. Not long after the surgery, I stopped having the pressure feeling in my chest.

Well, this morning, I started having the same pressure feeling again. My VNS battery is fine and this has nothing to do with the seizures or such. For awhile, my oxygen meter… read more

Yes, that is very similar to the pain I was feeling last night. My chest is a little better as of right now, but still sore. I am not sure how it will be later in the day. It feels as if I have a migraine in my chest.

I have the chostochonditis chest pain. It's awful, like somone is sticking a knife in me. It lasts anything upto an hour, but even after the pain has gone, I am left feeling tender. I've been getting this for several months. My flare ups are usually if I have stretched too far, bent to low (like when picking something off the floor), or twisting awkwardly. I actually find it worse than the RA pain. It is far more intense and actually has brought me to tears a couple of times.

Yes, chest pain and low oxygen levels can be connected with severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here are some relevant points from my knowledge base:

- Chest Pain in RA: RA can lead to chest pain due to conditions like costochondritis, which is inflammation where the ribs meet the cartilage. This pain can be sharp and persistent.
- Lung Involvement: RA can also cause interstitial lung disease, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pain. This can affect oxygen levels.
- Heart Issues: People with RA are at higher risk for heart disease, which can cause chest pain and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Given your history and symptoms, it’s important to consult your doctor to rule out serious conditions and get appropriate treatment.
