I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing such difficulties. While I can only provide information related to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and methotrexate, here are some steps you might consider based on my knowledge base:

1. Discuss Alternatives with Your Doctor: If methotrexate's side effects were too severe, there are other medications for RA, such as biologics, that might be more suitable for you. Your doctor can help you find an effective alternative.

2. Managing Side Effects: If you experience side effects from other RA medications, there are strategies to mitigate them, such as taking folic acid supplements to reduce methotrexate side effects like mouth sores, abdominal pain, and hair loss.

3. Timing of Medication: For those who experience fatigue from methotrexate, taking it close to the weekend can allow for rest and recovery.

4. Lowering Dosage: Sometimes, side effects can be managed by adjusting the dosage. However, never change your dosage without consulting your doctor.

5. Support and Communication: Improving communication with your healthcare provider about side effects can help in managing them better and finding the right treatment plan.

Remember, it's crucial to work closely with your healthcare provider to find the best treatment plan for your specific needs.

Ask your rheumatologist if he/ she can call in Prednisone to bridge you until you see her/him.

I had to go off methotrexate as well because of the side effects. I am wondering if your dr gave you any other options? I would hope that they can help you with something. I always believe in asking questions and even if that means you keep asking and asking I think that's perfectly ok. sending thoughts for some peace 😔❤

Hi Desiree, I’m sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time. Did your dr take you off the mtx without prescribing another medication ? Or did you take yourself off mtx ? I’ve been taking mtx for almost 4 years. Recent blood work showed high liver numbers so my ra dr cut the dosage in half and doubled the folic acid dose. Seems to have worked as new blood work shows back to normal levels. I also take a weekly enbrel injection. It’s working for me. The only thing I can think of that might help you while waiting for your dr appointment is heat / cold compresses and a a pain cream. Have you tried extra strength Tylenol? Try listening to soothing music, play a computer game, watch a comedy, talking with a friend…anything to take your mind off your pain. When you see your Ra dr ask about being referred to a pain management doctor. Sending hugs and prayers your way for healing and relief 🙏🏻
