Yes, some people have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after having rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here are the key symptoms that help differentiate the two diseases:

Common Symptoms:
- Fatigue
- Trouble sleeping
- Pain in and around the joints
- Pain that seems to come from an indistinct source
- Symptoms that flare up and then disappear, only to return later

Differentiating Symptoms:
- Joint Stiffness:
- RA: Significant joint stiffness, sometimes lasting for hours each day.
- Fibromyalgia: Stiffness usually loosens after less than an hour.
- Joint Swelling:
- RA: Often causes joint swelling.
- Fibromyalgia: Does not cause joint swelling.
- Pain Location:
- RA: Pain is usually focused around the joints in the hands, feet, wrists, and knees.
- Fibromyalgia: Pain is more widespread and difficult to pinpoint.
- Progression:
- RA: Progressive condition that worsens over time, causing joint damage and visible joint changes.
- Fibromyalgia: Does not cause joint damage or visible changes.

Diagnosis Process:
- RA: Blood tests to check RA activity markers and other rheumatic diseases.
- Fibromyalgia: No specific blood tests; diagnosis involves ruling out other conditions and assessing widespread pain, fatigue, cognitive problems, and tenderness.

If you suspect you have fibromyalgia in addition to RA, it's important to discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis.
