Yes, people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can experience pain in the lower back and neck. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Neck Pain: RA can affect the cervical spine (neck area), causing pain at the base of the skull, limited mobility, and other symptoms.
- Lower Back Pain: While RA does not directly cause lower back pain, it can indirectly lead to it. For example:
- Altered Mechanics: Severe pain in other joints can change your gait, leading to back pain.
- Osteoporosis: RA increases the risk of osteoporosis, which can cause vertebral fractures and back pain.
- Medications: Steroids used to treat RA can affect spinal health.

If your RA doctor believes your back pain is related to RA, it might be due to these indirect effects. Always consult with your doctor for a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan.
