Hi Everyone, I Have Just Put On Rheumalef (leflunomide) The Side Effects Looks Scary. I Am Not Sure If I Should Even Take It. Any Advice?

I still am on all the other medications like methotrexate, prednisone, salazopyrin (might be a different name in the US), coxleon and other immuno suppressants. My Dr. Did not discuss the side effects of the liver, kidneys, increased chances of cancer, dental issues, high risk of other infections, the list goes on. Is this really worth it?

I was put on this medication a couple of months ago, and they will monitor your blood work for any complications, but so far so good on my end. All RA meds have side effects whether they are biologics or not. It is a question of quality of life and slowing progression and protecting your other organs. I have had scleritis which is RA attacking your eyes, and it can affect your heart and lungs if it is left to just ravage your body. I don't think there is a completely safe med. And many times, just because it is listed as a side effect, doesn't mean everyone has these symptoms or issues.

Good morning Lanie ☀️ I took leflunomide for a few months. Didn’t agree with me. The worst side effect was terrible diarrhea. I went back on mtx. Now my liver numbers are high 🤪 so my dr cut the mtx dose in half. We’ll see what the blood work shows in 60 days. Hope today is kind to you 🤗
