Methotrexate has been shown to have an atheroprotective effect by increasing mRNA and protein expression for the anti-atherogenic reverse cholesterol transport mediator 27-hydroxylase (27-OHase). This suggests that methotrexate may actually help in managing cholesterol levels rather than increasing them. If you have Show Full Answer

I previously had a testing of low and high numbers for the cholesterol during the visit to my cardiologist the results came back with numbers being just fine but the information given is interesting to be aware of. I understand that each person is different but reading this type of information is good to be aware in my opinion especially since I am taking it and someone that pays close attention to the health of my heart.

My cholesterol has been a life long battle since my mid 20’s doc says it was inherited tried absolutely everything can’t take statins they make me ill. 😷 I’m 60 and finally was under control. Saw my labs that my GP ordered scared me I have appointment with my GP in August and rheumatologist in September obviously this will be a discussion. Have not had to see my cardiologist in 2 years things have been good. Guess maybe they both can check it from now on since I do labs every 3 months. I was previously on Leflunomide for 2 years and it stopped working so the Methotrexate was the only change. I’m praying I don’t have to switch meds again thanks for your input
