Before sharing my thoughts I will say every person is different with medication. With saying that it is best to speak with your specialist and locate the best medication that works for your needs.
Having said all the above, I began taking Plaquenil as of 2013 when the RA began. I did reach a point in time that Plaquenil was not enough so there was a need for an addition. After going through a few others that did not work the final medication we have found as an auto injector is Methotrexate that works very well for my needs. I have been taking it since December of 2023. The combination of Plaquenil and Methotrexate do take care of me.
By the way, I have taken Methotrexate using the vial and syringe also and it works just fine. There are days when I will be needing compression socks for my feet to tame the edema or if the RA chooses to flare. There are times when I will use the compression gloves. Every day I stay hydrated. On hot days like today, above 85 degrees F I stay indoors in front of an air conditioner as I cannot tolerate high heat or humidity.
I started using compression gloves recently after the weekly amount of methotrexate I am on was decreased. I have an appointment to see a more experienced rheumatologist next week. I am working from home now but in September I will be required to go to DC on two weekdays per week and 3 weekdays from home. The compression gloves I use do not quite cover my fingers 100%.
Amazon has a lot of options.
