If you are on Methotrexate be sure your doctor prescribes Folic Acid with it to prevent the hair loss, as well as the mouth sores.

Hello Rise! I have battled with my hair for years - not alopecia areata but just plain alopecia - thinning hair and falling out. I even had to wear a wig for quite some time. At the moment my hair is grim - so I’m using Minoxidil again which seems to work for me plus a shampoo containing Aminexil. And then a supplement containing Biotin. I have had 4 anaesthetics in a year so think that also affects me … not sure. It’s not a quick fix - one just has to persevere (and pray!). Good luck. 🤗

Thank you all for your responses! That’s why I love this group!
I’m not taking methotrexate, did for awhile ( I think I’ve taken some of everything!) Right now I’m on Rinvoq & Plaquenil - and one other one that I can’t remember. I also get Prolia shots every 6 mos & I do keep Zpaks of steroids just in case of bad flares. I do have osteoarthritis & lupus. Now, I’ve been diagnosed w/stage 3 kidney disease. Years of having RA & taking all of the meds over the years have caused internal damage. I was told all of this at initial diagnosis - that over time, these things could happen. But, wasn’t expecting alopecia! According to my dermatologist, mine is an autoimmune situation. So, welcome to the world of RA!
So, that’s why I trust the Lord completely with my life, take one day at a time
& praise Him for each day that I can get up!
Love you all!
Rise

Thank you!! I’m taking some kind of stuff from my dermatologist - been 6 mos now & it’s only getting worse. I’ll go back as soon as I can & see what he says. As w/everything else, this is an auto immune situation. I guess a wig is my next option.
Thanks for your reply. You have a good day! 😘

Good morning Rise ☀️ I’m sorry to hear that you are having to deal with this 🥲 I’ve had hair thinning issues. Started taking biotin quite a while ago. It’s really helped me. Don’t know if biotin would help with this though 🤔 I’m sure you will talk to your doctor about it. Please keep us updated about the doctors suggestions. Hope today is kind to you 🤗
