Members shared mixed experiences with frankincense oil for pain relief, with some reporting it helped their knees, joints, and headaches when applied topically (often combined with peppermint or lavender), while others found it ineffective or preferred alternatives like peppermint, castor oil, or Theraworx Joint Relief. Several members emphasized buying high-quality, pure essential oils from trusted sources, avoiding cheaper options from sites like Temu, and cautioned that results vary from person to person, with some finding relief through oral boswellia supplements recommended by their doctors. A recurring theme was the importance of experimenting with different combinations, using carrier oils to avoid skin irritation, and consulting healthcare providers to ensure oils don't interact with medications.

Frankincense is also known as Olibanum and you can buy it OTC in a foam called Theraworx Joint Relief. It works for minor pain. I keep it on hand all the time.

I am a massage therapist and I have used frankincense among other aromatherapy combinations for topical pain relief. I always first looked up the properties of the oils to see what would work well together. 2 things to note. I always use pure aromatherapies and know where the oils are sourced. this does make a difference in their effectiveness. Also we are all individuals not carbon copies of each other and just like with RA meds and treatments some work well on one person and not so well on another. If it does not seem to be effective for you I would simply try a different combination. I also never really combined more than a couple of aromatherapies together. then I really could tell what was working. It is fun to google and see what they are about.
