Hi Barbara,

I have those dark lines on my nails as well. I have had them for a long time. From what I have read they come with RA. I did have peeling skin quite a while back, but the medications I was on stopped the peeling.

It sounds like you're experiencing several nail changes. Here are some possible explanations based on the context provided:

- Ridges: These can be tiny, raised lines that develop across or up and down the nail. They can be associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or other conditions.
- Peeling: Long-term exposure to moisture or nail polish can cause nails to peel and become brittle.
- Pits: Small depressions on the nail surface, often associated with psoriasis.
- Red Skin: This could be related to inflammation or infection.
- Curving Nails: This might be a sign of clubbing, which can be associated with RA.
- Brown Line on Thumb: This could be a splinter hemorrhage, which appears as a longitudinal red-brown streak under the nail.

It's good that your rheumatologist has sent photos to a dermatologist for further evaluation. In the meantime, using clear polish can help protect your nails. If you have any concerns, it's important to follow up with your healthcare provider.
