Has Anyone Had Thyroid Issues Accompanying Their RA?

I was diagnosed with RA over 20 years ago; it is kept under control with Remicade infusions and sulphasalazine. Increasingly over the past couple of months, I have developed lethargy, fatigue, depression, hot flashes/sweats, sleep disturbances. All of these are signs of hypothyroidism. I asked my doctor about adding it to my blood test at my next infusion. Can anyone relate to this?

Yes, many people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) also experience thyroid issues, particularly hypothyroidism. Here are some key points:

- Comorbidity: RA and hypothyroidism often occur together, a situation known as comorbidity.
- Increased Risk: Studies have shown that people with RA have an elevated risk of developing hypothyroidism.

- Medication Impact: Some RA medications can affect the thyroid gland, potentially leading to hypothyroidism.

If you have both conditions, it's important to manage them effectively to maintain your health and quality of life.
