I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel in both hands before being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. In March 2023 I had to have carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. A year later I was diagnosed with both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Yes, there is a connection between carpal tunnel syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It's quite common for individuals with RA, especially if it affects the wrist, to also experience carpal tunnel syndrome. This is because the inflammation and swelling associated with RA can lead to increased pressure in the wrist area, affecting the median nerve and potentially causing carpal tunnel syndrome. The wrists are often involved in RA, with research indicating that 75% of people with RA have wrist involvement.
