June, I'm very sorry you're going through all this along with confusion. Do you have access to a nurse? At times of need, I have gone the route of telemedicine or a phone appt for medical advice. One thing I do a week before appointments is write down my questions and take the list with me, otherwise I forget the questions I had for the doctor.

Hi June,

It's difficult to answer your question. I can see why you are concerned about the biologic since you tested positive for hepatitis. Only a doctor can answer this type of question. I'm sorry I can't be of better help to you.

Before starting biologic treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), it's standard practice to screen for underlying infections, including hepatitis B and C. This is because biologics can increase the risk of infection by suppressing the immune system. If an existing infection like hepatitis B or C is found, it usually needs to be treated before beginning biologic therapy. However, the decision to proceed with biologic treatment in someone who has or carries hepatitis B or C depends on various factors, including the severity of the infection, the specific biologic being considered, and the individual's overall health status. It's crucial to have a detailed discussion with a healthcare provider to understand the risks and benefits in such situations.
