I have ring splints, but also an overnight hand splint which will help keep the fingers in alignment with the whole hand. There is also a working hand split that keeps the fingers in alignment. See your Dr. for a referral to an occupational therapist, they do all that splinting work.

Yes, there are several ways to help prevent and manage finger deformities, especially if you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which can cause conditions like swan-neck deformity. Here are some strategies:

- **RA Treatment**: The most impactful approach is treating the underlying cause, RA, with medications. Common classes of RA drugs include Disease-modifying antirheumatic agents (DMARDs), Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Biologics, Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, and Steroids. Following your treatment plan and communicating with your doctor about any side effects is crucial.

- **Hand Exercises**: Engaging in hand exercises can help prevent and manage finger deformities. These exercises aim to strengthen grip and joints and stretch surrounding muscles. Doing these exercises for a few minutes daily at home can maintain hand strength. One tip for reducing pain during these exercises is to perform them in a sink of warm water.

- **Use of Ring Splints**: For those with mild swan-neck deformity, doctors may recommend ring splints. These noninvasive splints can help slowly correct the deformity while allowing finger movement. They come in various designs and materials, but it's important to consult with your doctor before using them.

- **Surgery**: In more severe cases, surgery might be an option to correct swan-neck deformity. Procedures like interphalangeal arthrodesis can realign or fuse joints to improve finger function, though they may limit post-recovery mobility.

- **Preventive Practices**: Wearing RA gloves can provide warmth and compression, helping to drain excess fluid around the joints and alleviate RA pain. Being proactive about your hand and finger health is key.

It's essential to work closely with your healthcare team to determine the best prevention and management strategies for your specific situation.
