My rheumatologist won’t prescribe stronger pain meds to help relief some of my pain .

My rheumatologist says that they will not prescribe pain medicines such as those for they do not want to mask anything while they are trying to figure out what meds will relieve your inflammation. Inflammation being the main cause you're immune system is working the way it is. Once they get you on the right meds for your RA your pain should go away and less. There is something else up. I would think. Your rheumatologist should be working quickly to get this under control. If not then you need to push on them to do so. You are way too young to have uncontrolled RA for very long. I wish you best of luck and I've added you to my team.

Our clinic has a great pain management system/program. So sorry yours isn't. I had to be diagnosed with chronic pain to get in which my primary did. I have a good team of practioners that work together here.

Hi Leslie,

My doctor won't prescribe opioids either. My Rheumatologist only gives out prednisone. My primary offered me tramadol, but I'm allergic. I was also sent to pain management, but the doctor there was a butthead. Very condescending and was being a bit too physical for my liking.

Totally agree but i am only prescribed ibuprofen, celebrex or naproxen and i do have tramadol that gets prescribed every now and then . But the problem is that i would like to have emergency medication at all for times like these. She is hesitant to prescribe any pain medication . I’m a nurse so i am aware of certain medication interactions .

I had to go to a pain management doctor but you’ll have to get your family doctor to give you a referral. I take hydrocodone but it really doesn’t help that much.
