Has Anyone Had Itchiness, Especially At Night On Arms, From Hydrochloroquine (plaquenil)?
I think I'm having a side effect after being on it for a year. Hoping to wean off it ASAP, but weaning off prednisone, so I'm afraid inflammation and other symptoms will return.
If you're experiencing itchiness on your arms at night from taking hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), it's important to contact your doctor. Itchiness can be a side effect of the medication, and your doctor can help determine if you're allergic to it or if you should stop taking it. They can also suggest an alternative Show Full Answer
Hi Elyse,
I don't take hydroxy (I tried it briefly a few years ago but suffered an adverse reaction to it). I do, however, get itchy arms and was told it was due to my diabetes - go figure. You are so right when you wrote that it's so frustrating not knowing what causes what (I sometimes think that we're more often the medical professionals here!!). I hope you get some helpful answers. 🤗🤔
I was thrilled with the results on hydroxychloroquine, aka Plaquenil, then I developed a full body rash. Both my rheumy and dermatologist said it was a reaction to the medication.
Not diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I do have overlapping autoimmune diseases, so who knows. Rheumatologist says treatment is the same…I read itchiness is a possible side effect of Plaquenil. So hard to determine cause. I told rheumatologist last week. Thanks for your response.😊
I am not on hydroxycloroquine but my arms are often itchy in the evening. Not sure why.
