Can Rheumatoid Arthritis Ruin Your Teeth?
I've been cracking and breaking teeth also, costing me lots to repair. I did some research to find out prednisone not only thins the bones but also the teeth.
Hi DeniseHersheyFoltz,
Rheumatoid Arthritis affects the TMJ complex by causing TMJ-RA, or "condylar resorption" where as a result of increased activity of the inflammatory pathway (Interleukins, Tumor Necrosis Factor, and Janus Kinases) there is an increased production of osteoclasts, leading to bone resorption and damage at the synovial lining. This will cause an opening bite and cause your lower jaw to incline at an increased angle and to have decreased projection.
Yes.Recently had a tooth break off and had to have the rest of it extracted.I am noticing a few other teeth that are questionable. My dentist told me the RA is eating away my jawbone? They wanted to pull all my teeth and do implants.I got four done, at a cost of almost 5,000 dollars. Can't afford any further than that!
Hi:
I lost about 4 teeth alll in one year and it was only to teeth that I’d had root canals on. It was a terrible time for me. I had to get a partial but for months I couldn’t eat properly because of the loss. Sorry so grim!!!
My teeth have been breaking and the spaces in between the teeth are getting wider. So food gets stuck in there. The dentist said it's very possible it's cause is autoimmune related. I did find out I have Sjogrens, and I have read it effects your teeth. Whether that's true or not I don't know.
