Anyone Taking Orencia (Abatacept)?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Montgomery, AL

Hello everyone,

I had to stop taking Methotrexate shots. They caused me to have awful mouth ulcers, made my nose bleed daily and my liver enzymes went through the roof. So I'm going to have surgery on my foot on Sept. 27th. I cannot take any meds for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. My Rheumatologist is giving me Orencia (Abatacept) next.
Has anyone taken Orencia - (Abatacept)? I'm just wondering how you did on that.

Thanks,
Laura

Yes. Just had my 3rd infusion and I am feeling a million times better. Most of my pain is gone in my knees and feet. Hands are better and haven't needed to take any pain meds for a month. Able to start walking over a mile a day with little pain and better flexibility.

I did the and it didn't do a think for me. Maybe it will for you! I've learned these medications may do well for one person but not another. Best of luck and lots of prayers!

Hi, I was on Orencia and it worked very well for me for almost 2 yrs. I had to stop for awhile due to a major surgery. When I started it again it did not seem to be as effective for me. My doc is wanting to put me on MTX , I have HSV1 and get horrible mouth sores so I’ve been very resistant to start it. May be time for me to try to find a new RA doc.
